    Military career of the sci-fi author and scientologist

He saw active service between and , during World War II, as a naval lieutenant (junior grade) and later as a lieutenant. After the war he was mustered out of active service and resigned his commission in

    As with many other aspects of L. Ron Hubbard's life, accounts of his military career are much disputed. His account of his military service later formed a major element of his public persona, as depicted by his Scientologist followers. Chapter 1

    My Father was born in in Bristol UK a place where he said the Hardings were more prolific than the Smiths. He and his brother became trooper veterans of the 2nd Boer War in South Africa. Towards the end of hostilities, he was declared the ringleader of a group of troopers from 01/C that told their Major to mount his horse and depart, never to return. The reality of his marriage to Polly and the two children from that marriage who have been written out of history (Katie and Nibs).

    His real naval record &#; it could not all just be brushed under the rug with the old saw &#;he was in intelligence so false records were created for him&#;&#;

    His second wife,
