    A Missouri man has been arrested after his disabled flickvän was strangled to death at a resort in Mexico.

    John Loveless, 59, of Franklin County, was detained at the airport in Cancun as he was about to board a flight to Atlanta.

    The son of Missouri attorney and businessman John Loveless, accused of murdering his girlfriend in Playa del Carmen, is in Mexico trying to help his father clear his name.

    Tyler Loveless traveled to Mexico on Friday March 4, D. Keith Wilson, who is John Loveless’ Franklin Financial Corp. business partner, told The Missourian newspaper.

    The elder Loveless, 59, is being held in a Mexican jail while an investigation is being conducted into the death of his girlfriend, Tamra Turpin, 36, also a Missouri resident.

    According to Mexican authorities, Turpin was found dead last Wednesday morning, March 2, in a condominium the couple had rented in the Caribbean resort city of Playa del Carmen. A forensic examination concluded she died of asphyxia by strangulation, the Associated Press reported.

    The Missouri lawyer charged with murdering his girlfriend in Playa del Carmen last week allegedly had an alcohol problem and had been cited in the U.S. for Driving Under the Influence as recently as last month, according to the woman’s mother.

    In an exclusive interview with The Yucatan Times, Evalena Duncan, the mother of the deceased woman, Tamra Turpin, said that she has heard rumors that suspect John Loveless had a drinking problem and was prone to displays of temper. However, Duncan said she had not heard of any previous violent incidents between Loveless, 59, and Turpin, 36.

    “He was kind to my daughter, and most people tell me they believe he worshipped the ground she walked on,” Duncan said in a telephone interview with TYT Friday March 11.
