Our Lady of Fátima (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora de Fátima, pronounced[ˈnɔsɐsɨˈɲɔɾɐðɨˈfatimɐ]; formally known as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fátima) is a Catholic title of Mary, mother of Jesus, based on the Marian apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria in Fátima, Portugal. The three children were Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto. José Alves Correia da Silva, Bishop of Leiria, declared the events worthy of belief on 13 October 1930.[3]
Pope Pius XII granted a pontifical decree of canonical coronation via the papal bullCeleberrima solemnia towards the venerated image on 25 April 1946. The story of a traveling statue of Fatima
Mary DeLand and Ruth Masserant have been on a mission since 1975.
For 44 years, the Monroe County sisters have traveled the region with an Our Lady of Fatima statue.
The statue visits a new home or church each week and is inspired by a series of 1917 events in Fatima, Portugal. It’s said Mary, the Mother of Jesus, appeared to three children in Fatima each month from May through October. She gave them messages, including the importance of praying the rosary.
Ever since, people all around the country, such as the group Men of the Sacred Heart, have taken Our Lady of Fatima statues from home to home.
The sisters’ statue came right from Portugal.
In 1954, a priest from Our Lady of Sorrows in Chicago went to Fatima and brought back 25 statues. Angela Magolan of Wyandotte took two. One remained in Wyandotte and the other found its way to Monroe County.

Patrick Sabat completed his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Our Lady of Peace College Seminary in the Diocese of Tarlac, Philippines. While still discerning the yrke to the priesthood, he enrolled at the Jesuit-run university, Ateneo de Manila for masteral studies in Philosophy and later held a teaching position at the Tarlac State University. He hosted Catholic radio and TV programs, and ventured into a computer/media production business. When he got married, they immigrated to Singapore for a couple of years. He was asked to accompany the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue (IPVS) of Fatima in 2003, mostly to Asia and Australia, and five years later (2008) gave up his university career and businesses to work full time as the IPVS Statue custodian worldwide.
