Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
Nigerian politician and businessman
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (November 1952) is a Nigerian businessman and politician and also a former governor and senator in Nasarawa State in the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket.[1]
He was elected as a senator in 2019.[2]
Background
[edit]Al-makura was born around 1952 in Lafia, Nasarawa State[3] as a member of the Gwandara ethnic Group.[4]
He attended Dunama Primary School, Lafia (1959–1966), Keffi Teacher's College (1967–1971) and then Government Teachers College of Education, Uyo (1972–75). For a short period in 1975 he was an Assistant Producer at the Broadcasting Corporation of Northern Nigeria. He then went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1975–1978), graduating with a Bachelor of Education Degree.
For his National Youth Service he was a teacher at the Government College, Makurdi.[5]
In 1978 he formed Almakura Nigeria Limited, importing and servicing

Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has confirmed the appointment of acting Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed as the substantive Vice Chancellor.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Comrade Abraham Ekpo, it said the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, who signed the appointment letter on behalf of the Visitor to the university and Governor Al-Makura described the appointment as well deserved and timely.
The appointment letter reads: “Following the outcome of your interview for the position of Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi and sequel to the recommendation of the Governing Council of the University and the exercise of the power conferred on the visitor of NSUK and Governor of Nasarawa State, via paragraph 4 (1) of the first schedule of law establishing NSUK 2001 His Excellency Governor, Umaru Tanko Al Makura
