  • Andy Partridge's strength is that he's great at writing simple little hooky guitar parts that take up residence in your head and refuse to leave.

    What's so special about Roskilde?

Come this time next year, bar some cataclysmic chain of events, I will be celebrating my 10th year (in a row) at Roskilde Festival, and it seems to me that each year I've gone has taught me a new perspective on the festival - Something new to appreciate it for. I remember my mom driving me and a friend in from the country in 2005, being utterly overwhelmed by the simple fact that I was going to see Audioslave, Green Day, Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World, one of my life-changing bands, all in the same week. At the time I had seen less than five shows in my life, so even though Jimmy Eat World had a pretty rough set, the sheer musical side of the festival, and very specifically those four bands, was enough to blow my mind.

    Review by Rory Bentley
    8/10

Unlike their former vocalist, Finnish Folk Metal legends Ensiferum  have been pretty darn prolific over the course of their lengthy career, both in terms of quantity and quality. 2020’s excellent “Thalassic” was a real high point in the band’s discography, adopting a more epic, nautical feel, which is normally going to be a hit with me. The addition of Pekka Montin on clean vocals and keys was a welcome shot in the arm to their sound and added a powerful dimension to the mead-chugging anthemic backbone that made me love them in the first place.

Happily “Winter Storm” continues this powerful trajectory with more strong songwriting, cinematic production, and the rustic authenticity fans have come to expect. ‘Winter Storm Vigilantes’ is an ass kicking opener that makes full use of Pekka’s trad-metal pipes with its skull-splitting “tearing evil a

Antti Yrjö Hammarberg (14 September 1943 – 14 January 1991), professionally known as Irwin Goodman, was a popular Finnish rock and folk singer. In the late 1960s he was widely known as a protest singer. He recorded over 300 songs, most of which were his own compositions, with lyrics written bygd Vexi Salmi. Irwin Goodman started as a protest song singer in the folk boom of the mid-1960s, his humorous songs, often mocking the authorities, became favorites of the Finnish people; to such an extent that small "Irwin singalike" contests are continuously arranged by some pubs for entertainment. Goodman had continuing troubles with Finnish tax authorities and had ever-worsening problems with alcohol. His escapades were eagerly followed by sensationalist magazines such as Hymy. Goodman died of a heart attack while on the way from Vyborg to Hamina, Finland. The story of his life was turned into a feature rulle, Rentun Ruusu, in 2001. Irwin's most famous songs include "Poing Poing Poing" (1971),
